SDG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate
Save on an Eligible Pre-Owned Electric Vehicle
San Diego Gas & Electric customers may qualify for a
rebate when purchasing or leasing an eligible pre-owned
battery-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle.
About the Program
The SDG&E Pre-Owned Electric Vehicle Rebate Program helps
eligible San Diego Gas & Electric residential customers
reduce the cost of purchasing or leasing a qualifying
pre-owned electric vehicle.
The program is implemented by the Center for Sustainable
Energy and offers two rebate levels based on applicant
eligibility.
Eligible customers may receive a Standard Rebate of $1,000,
while qualifying income-based applicants may instead receive
a $4,000 Rebate Plus.

The program offers one of two rebate options depending on your
eligibility.
Vehicle Requirements
Eligible pre-owned battery-electric vehicles may qualify
under the SDG&E program.
Eligible pre-owned plug-in hybrid electric vehicles may also
qualify when they meet current program requirements.
For applications submitted on or after April 16, 2026,
eligible BEVs and PHEVs must have a battery capacity of at
least 8 kWh.
Registration requirement:
The eligible vehicle must be currently registered to the
applicant’s SDG&E residential service address and remain
registered to the applicant in California for at least 20
months.
How It Works
Choose a qualifying pre-owned battery-electric or plug-in
hybrid vehicle.
Register the vehicle in California at your eligible
SDG&E residential service address.
Apply through the official SDG&E Pre-Owned EV Rebate
website within 180 days of your purchase or lease.
If approved, the program will issue your applicable rebate.
The rebate check is mailed to the address listed on the
vehicle registration.
Rebate Plus
Applicants who meet all program requirements may qualify
for Rebate Plus through either household income
eligibility or participation in certain approved public
assistance programs.
